Fibraurea
Fibraurea recisa
A woody, climbing plant found growing wild in the mountain areas of Burma, China and Vietnam. It produces a fruit the size of an olive which turns a pretty yellow colour when ripe. In autumn, the stems and root are harvested, ground and dried before being used in traditional medicine to treat a number of conditions such as gastritis, dysentery and ear infections. In cosmetics, Clarins Laboratories were particularly interested in the alkaloid-rich Fibraurea root from which the Palmatin alkaloid was successfully extracted. Palmatin slows down keratinocyte separation in hair follicles, the cells responsible for hair growth.
